The Eiffel Tower, if you don't already know, is in Paris, France. It was built for the World's Fair in 1889. Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, the man who made the plans for the Eiffel Tower. He also developed the metal frame of the Statue of Liberty too. The construction started around February 1887. The base length is 410' and the pillars are in all cardinal directions. 132 workers assembling 18,000 on the site with 2.5 million rivets which connected the iron pieces. The construction time, 2 years, 2 months, and 5 days. The tallest building for 40 years 'till 1929 at 1,023 feet. They added 40 more feet to it and again became the tallest at 1,063' which height is still the same as today, twice as high as the Great Pyramid of Giza. The total weight, 10,100 tons which is over 20 million pounds!! The Eiffel has an elevator but what is unique about it is that it travels on a curve towards the top at a 60 degree angle. The tower gets a new coat of paint every seven years which weighs 60 tons and is 12,000 gallons of paint. The tower can sway up to 5" in heavy wind and in heat it can lean up to 7 inches away from the sun. Today it may not be the tallest structure but it is the tallest tower in Paris.
